American Slave Narratives
Under the sponsorship of the University of Virginia, this site
contains transcripts of some of the Works Progress Adminstration (WPA)
interviews with former slaves in 1938, including some audio clips. For anyone
interested in first-hand descriptions of the experience of slavery, this site
is essential. There is also an online collection of
North American Slave Narratives and related materials at the University of
North Carolina.
The
Atlantic Monthly Archive Articles on Race
Over the years, The Atlantic Monthly has published a wide
ranging collection of articles on race and racism. This link will take you to
an index of those articles, many of which are quite stimulating and worthy of
further discussion and debate.
The Black Scholar
This is
a journal of Black studies and research, with articles from current and back
issues available.
The Crisis
This was the official journal/magazine of the NAACP, founded in
1910 by W.E.B. Du Bois. It publishes news items, articles and opinions on
various issues in communities of color. The publication is now an independent
entity, but it continues to publish information and news of the NAACP.
Critical Race
Theory Links
This is a link page to some figures and articles in the
movement known in legal circles as "critical race theory" (CRT). Some of the
links on this page are no longer active, but readers can navigate to some
important articles. Readers should also travel to Race,
Racism
and the Law, a web site managed by
Vernellia R. Randall, Professor of Law at
the University of Dayton. The site has many links to creative and informative
materials, including internet resources that Professor Randall has developed
for instructional purposes.
How Race Is Lived In America
In 2000, the New York Times published a series of articles describing
first-hand narratives and journalistic perspective on how race is lived in
America. This series of articles has since been published by Times Books, but
the web site contains some very significant sidebars and links that cannot be
captured in paper-published form. This site is more than worth the time to
explore it.
Interracial Voice –
The Global Multiracial Movement
This site is the Internet presence of a network of persons whose interest
is serving the issues and concerns of so-called mixed-race persons and
communities. It is basically an Internet-based association, but its articles
and editorials raise important issues on the question of race-identity.

Transcripts of Newshour segments are available at this site.
When the page is loaded, viewers can click on
Race Relations in the list of topics on the left side of the page to go to
a list of transcripts available from previous segments that dealt with race,
including several with President Clinton.
Sojourners
This
Christian magazine always has articles, editorials and news about social and
public policy issues related to racism and human rights. It also has a
resource center and previous issues of Sojourners publications online. The
magazine and web site represent a deliberate Christian engagement with
sociocultural environments.
